Using the ipupdate utility

You can also update levels and/or color models, using the ipupdate command line utility we provide. If you need to update many files, this is likely to take much less of your time.

To use the ipupdate utility:

  1. Choose Start > Run.
The Run window appears.
  1. Type cmd to start the command line window.
Note that you can - whenever necessary - adjust the window's size, and also how much of its old contents are kept in a scroll buffer. Right-click on the title bar, choose Properties, and select the Layout tab. Adjust the Window Size and Screen Buffer Size, then click on OK.
  1. At the prompt that appears, type the command to update the files:
ipupdate [-w] levels_and/or_crms
For example, to update the files in the current directory named Dog.lvl and Dog.crm:
ipupdate -w Dog.lvl Dog.crm
The given levels and/or color models are updated, overwriting the original versions. Any problems are reported in detail.
Note that you can use wildcards with this command. For example, to update all the levels in a directory, wiping old files:
ipupdate -w *.lvl
Note also that you may need to prefix the command with its full pathname. This is normally C:\ProgramFiles\CAS\Animo\bin on NT, or /usr/animo/utils on SGIs. For example:
C:\ProgramFiles\CAS\Animo\bin\ipupdate [-w] levels_and/or_crms
The optional -w parameter wipes (i.e. removes) certain files within the level. These are used by earlier versions of Animo, but are no longer used by Animo 2.0:
If you omit the -w parameter you might still be able open the updated files in Animo Ax-Cel 1.1. This can be a useful extra backup. However, it is not reliable. Also, once you make any significant changes with Animo 2.0, you'll no longer be able to open the updated files in Animo Ax-Cel 1.1, or the results will be unpredictable.
If you use the -w parameter, you won't be able open the updated files in Animo Ax-Cel 1.1, but you will save disc space.
Since opening updated files in Animo Ax-Cel 1.1 is unreliable, we recommend that you use ipupdate's -w parameter.
We therefore recommend that you use ipupdate's -w parameter to save disc space.
